We sing for the praise of God so we do our best whether the
congregation is large or small. Every
Sunday
we lead the singing of the hymns and enhance the worship by
singing an introit (usually a short musical composition)
before the service and an anthem during the giving of
communion.
We sing a great variety of music ranging from early
plainsong to contemporary.
We practice on Wednesdays from 5.00pm to 6.00pm and from
9.00 to 10.00am before the Sunday morning service.
Usually on the second Sunday in the month we sing a choral
evensong at 6.30pm preceded by a short rehearsal at 5.30pm.
We
also sing for special services during the church year, such
as Carols by Candlelight, and for weddings when requested.
We are affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and
sing annually with other affiliated choirs an evensong in
Norwich Cathedral and also at other area events.
At present we have 22 members with an average attendance of
14. I do not expect members to attend every service but to
attend when they are able. Some members rarely miss a
service whereas some may only get to half of the services.
Everybody’s contribution is valued.
We welcome visiting choristers to join us for worship.
We
are always looking for new members. If you would like to try
singing with us, please speak to me. We accept new members
on a trial basis for three months but I have not, as yet,
had to ask anyone to leave!
A medical study in 2006 concluded that regular singing in a
choir increases your life expectancy by two years, improves
your breathing and circulation and reduces the chances of
depression, so if you want to live longer and enjoy yourself
whilst doing so, think about joining the choir.
